Vacancy: Driver

FHR is looking to employ a driver

Under the supervision and management of the Office Manager the driver ensures that FHR staff are driven safely to meetings, workshops, other work-related destinations as instructed by the Office Manager. The driver has to ensure that all vehicles under his/her charge are maintained in an optimal working condition at all times.

Tasks and Responsibility

  1. Logistics Support
    • Drives FHR staff and officials to meetings, site visits and ports of entry/exit
    • Collects and delivers mail, packages and equipment
    • Maintains a record of all deliveries and distributions
    • Obtains clearance for vehicle use for all trips
    • Performs pick up duties at airports, different departments, meeting areas and ports of entry/exit  
  2. Administrative Support
    • Maintain records of:
      a. All vehicles,
      b. Logs official trips,
      c. records daily mileage/use of fuel cards
      d. Keeps record of consumption
    • Assist Office staff in filing, photocopying and maintaining stores when required
    • Assist in the mailing and distribution of mail

  3. Vehicle Maintenance
    • Ensures that assigned vehicles are compliant with the Vehicle policy requirements before/after use
    • Performs minor repairs, arranges for regular maintenance and ensures that vehicles are kept clean at all times
    • Custodian of vehicle tools and kits ensuring the safety of all tools
    • Ensures the availability of requires support goods like GPRS tools, maps, first aid kit, office directory, spare parts and log books and necessary spare parts are assigned to each vehicle.
    • Ensures that in any event of emergency/accident involving the official vehicle(s), all the regulatory steps are followed
  4. Team work
    • Exchanges relevant information and maintains an open line of communication with team members and his/her supervisor
    • When necessary act a translator for an official person using the vehicle
    • Participates in departmental meetings and other assigned tasks

Required Competencies

  • Appropriate and transparent decision making and operational effectiveness
  • Elementary use of computers  
  • Fluency in English and any local language

Academic/Training requirements

  • Matric Certificate
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Valid defensive driving certificate
  • Valid professional driving permit (PDP)

Minimum Experience to be considered

  • 5 years’ work experience as a driver in an international organization
  • A safe driving record
  • Knowledge of driving rules, regulations, chauffeur protocol and courteous
  • Conversant with Gauteng road network
